The meridian channels, in this framework, may represent empirically observed pathways of connective tissue continuity — mapped with remarkable accuracy by practitioners who had no concept of fascia but plenty of clinical evidence to guide them.

Neurotransmitters, Endorphins, and the Chemistry of Relief

The neurochemical dimension of acupuncture research adds yet another layer of validation. Multiple studies have documented that acupuncture stimulation triggers the release of endogenous opioids — the body's own pain-modulating compounds — including beta-endorphin, enkephalin, and dynorphin. Serotonin and dopamine signaling also appear to be influenced, which may help explain acupuncture's documented effects on mood, sleep, and anxiety.
